The Tyrone Water & Wastewater Association (TWWA), Tyrone, NM, wants to ensure that all prospective homebuyers in Tyrone are aware of the current state of our water and wastewater infrastructure. Some new homeowners have expressed concerns that they were not informed about the aging infrastructure before purchasing their homes.

What You Need to Know

Tyrone’s water and wastewater systems have been in need of repairs for some time, and the issue has been widely reported in local and state news. The TWWA has also sent out numerous communications over the past four years outlining the situation and the steps being taken to improve it.

What’s Being Done?

The TWWA has secured nearly $7 million in funding to upgrade the water lines, fire hydrants, and repair the water tower. A new lift station was recently completed through a 100% state-funded grant of $1.9 million. The next major construction projects, including water line and hydrant replacements, are expected to begin in 2026.

Understanding Tyrone’s Property-Related Fees

There are three key entities involved in property services in Tyrone:

  1. Tyrone Community Association (TCA): Manages trash collection, streetlights, and property violations. Monthly fee: $35

  2. Tyrone Water & Wastewater Association (TWWA): Maintains the water and wastewater infrastructure. Monthly fee: $65

  3. Town of Silver City (TOSC): Owns and reads the water meters, issues bills, and collects additional fees for water system maintenance.

Stay Informed

The TWWA encourages residents and prospective buyers to stay informed by attending monthly board meetings, held on the third Wednesday of each month at 6:30 PM. These meetings are also available on Zoom, with details at tyronewater.org.
